LOCAL PLAY STARRING CLIFTON POWELL, SHIRLEY MURDOCH & DAVE HOLLISTER- ADRESSES LIGHT SKIN VS. DARK SKIN STIGMA
The Wrong Shade of Black
The Wrong Shade of Black, written and directed by Tyaire Priest, is a powerful and emotional stage play, that portrays the hurt and division that two sisters experience as a result of their mother’s inability to express unconditional love because of the complexion of their skin. Tyaire Priest, formerly an electrician, has had tremendous success as a playwright over the last 3 years with such productions as “Why Men Cheat,” “Why Women Cheat” and “The Tears of a Teenage Mother” which was inspired by his mother.
Priest has had successful productions reach his fan base in Delaware, Philadelphia, New Jersey and as far as Virginia. He has sold out nearly a dozen shows and has played to over 10,000 fans. The Wrong Shade of Black boasts his most stellar cast so far with R&B vocalist Shirley Murdock (Zapp, “As We Lay”), Crooner Dave Hollister (Blackstreet) and distinguished actor Clifton Powell from the Academy Award winning film Ray, who ironically, is probably best known for his comedic role as the character “Pinky” in the movies “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next.” Priest is also in the process of writing the book versions of some of most his popular plays.
